THE COMMUNITY

The Lambton County region, located in the southwestern tip of Ontario, is an area that appeals to many through its beautiful natural environment, proximity to other regions and communities, and the quality of life it can offer.

Immersed in farmland and backed by the sandy shores of Lake Huron, Lambton County is a haven for nature-lovers that can be appreciated and enjoyed all year round. With its convenient location, people have quick access to the St. Clair River, several freshwater beaches along Lake Huron, lush parks, and serene walking trails.

In addition to its beautiful surroundings, Lambton County also offers proximity to other urban and rural communities both nationally and internationally as the county is located on the edge of the Canada-U.S. border. Within Canada, locals can drive to London in about 50 minutes, and within three hours, they can drive to Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area to enjoy all the sights and luxuries the area has to offer. Crossing the border into the U.S. is also a feasible option; in as little as an hour and a half, locals can take a day trip or spend the weekend in Detroit, Michigan’s largest city, or any other community located within the region.

Lambton County consists of both rural and urban communities, including Sarnia, the largest city in the region, Petrolia, Lambton Shores, and the Township of St. Clair, just to name a few. Each community offers something unique.

Sarnia is Lambton County’s largest city. It is a small, but lively urban community of approximately 72,000 people that is located on the edge of the St. Clair River and Lake Huron. Warm, friendly, and full of energy, Sarnia offers affordable living, numerous job opportunities, quality healthcare and education, a vibrant arts and culture scene, and countless outdoor and indoor recreational activities to do, making it a great place for those who love the energy and luxuries that a larger city offers within a more intimate setting.

Petrolia, on the other hand, is a charming and vibrant rural town located in central Lambton County, just 25 minutes away from Sarnia. With a population of over 6,000 people, Petrolia is mainly known for its beautiful Victorian architecture and rich history, especially within the oil industry. In fact, Petrolia is known as “Canada’s Victorian Oil Town”. It is the perfect place for those who desire to live in a small and quaint community.

However, for those who prefer to live near the water, a thriving mid-sized beach town like Lambton Shores would be ideal. As its name indicates, Lambton Shores is primarily known for its beautiful beaches and parks, attracting many locals and visitors to the area to come relax and have fun, especially during the summer months.

And then there’s the Township of St. Clair, a rural subdivision of Lambton County located just south of Sarnia and along the banks of the St. Clair River. A warm and welcoming municipality with a population of roughly 15,000 people, the Township of St. Clair is a great community for rural living and is comprised of dozens of smaller rural communities in southern Ontario’s countryside.

In addition to these communities, there are several others located within Lambton County that would also be great options to live in. At the end of the day though, Lambton County offers a great quality of life no matter which community a person decides to live in.

Housing prices in Lambton County are considerably more affordable than those in the bigger cities, with an average housing price that hovers around the mid five hundreds. This average amount makes it possible for locals to own their own home. Furthermore, there are numerous career opportunities available in a variety of sectors such as the petrochemical and biochemical industries, education, and healthcare. Additionally, many local businesses are also thriving within the region thanks to a healthy, but still competitive, market. Along with a plethora of career options, educational opportunities are abundant with many great primary, secondary, and post-secondary institutions available within the county. One of these post-secondary options includes Lambton College, one of Canada’s top research colleges, which draws many to the Lambton County region. In terms of healthcare, many locals appreciate the reliability, stability, and quality of the healthcare and wellness services that are readily available to them in the area.

Ultimately, many choose to make the Lambton County region their home because of the benefits it can offer. While life may not be as fast paced as it would be in other larger communities, people can still appreciate all the comforts and opportunities that rural community-living provides.
