Petrolia

EXPLORE
THE COMMUNITY

Petrolia is a beautiful and vibrant rural town rooted in the heart of Lambton County with much to offer.

On a basic level, Petrolia provides all the main amenities and necessities a person could need. Located within and around the town, residents have access to quality health care services, great primary, secondary, and post-secondary educational institutions, tons of local businesses, boutique retail shops, and many amazing restaurants, especially in the downtown region. In addition, Petrolia even has its own public library and YMCA wellness centre, so locals don’t have to venture too far outside of town to find enjoyment or do their favourite things.

In addition to having all the basic amenities and conveniences of a larger city, Petrolia also offers proximity to multiple cities in both Canada and the United States. Within Canada, the town is approximately a 25-minute drive to Sarnia, Lambton County’s largest city, roughly an hour to London, and 2.5 hours to Toronto; in terms of travelling to the United States, locals can easily drive from Petrolia to Detroit, Michigan, for a fun day trip in as little as 1.5 hours. When considering the town’s location and its conveniences, Petrolia becomes a more appealing place to live for those who want to settle in a small town, but still have access to all the amenities and luxuries a bigger city can offer.

Another point worth considering is the cost of a buying a home in Petrolia. Unlike many of the housing prices in some of Ontario’s larger cities, the average housing price in Petrolia hovers around the mid-three hundreds, making it possible for people to buy and own their own home in beautiful southern Ontario.

But what people love most about the town is the warm community it fosters and the rich culture and heritage it’s steeped in. Being a small town, Petrolia naturally captures and emits small-town charm. It’s a community where all are welcome, and everyone knows each other, making it a safe and fun place to live in.

Petrolia is full of history, particularly within the oil industry. Known as “Canada’s Victorian Oil Town”, Petrolia is comprised of many historic, Victorian-styled buildings, which enhances the town’s charm. One of the most beloved and well-used historic buildings includes Victoria Hall, which was constructed in 1889 and used as an opera house. Since its initial opening, much has changed; however, Victoria Hall still continues to be an integral part of Petrolia and has made its mark as being one of Canada’s national heritage sites. Today, it functions as Petrolia’s playhouse and town hall.

Though it may be a small town, Petrolia has much to offer its residents and the community of Lambton County. Small-town charm, history, affordable housing, and a safe and caring community are just a few of the many reasons people call Petrolia home.
